Irish indie developer Shaggy Mane Studios is proud to announce that Dangerous Diver is now available on Steam.
Dangerous Diver is a physics-based arcade challenge where every dive is a test of timing, trajectory and nerve. Players take control of Danton Dangereux, the reluctant son of legendary diver Darcel Dangereux. After Darcel loses his life attempting five forbidden dives, his ghost refuses to leave Danton alone until he finishes what his father started.
Inspired by classic trajectory games, Dangerous Diver combines skill-based physics gameplay with humorous animated cutscenes, quirky characters and a satisfying “one more try” gameplay loop. Players must battle the elements, wildlife and increasingly dangerous hazards while mastering perfect dives across five unique tournament locations before taking on the legendary forbidden dives themselves.
Originally developed as a small mobile project between friends, Dangerous Diver survived as the original team gradually disbanded until only artist, musician and designer Alan Donnelly and programmer Colm Kelly remained. In 2018, the game was selected to be showcased at Pocket Gamer Connects San Francisco, where it attracted strong interest from players and publishers. A publishing opportunity led to almost a year of additional development before ultimately falling through, and the project was placed on hold.
Years later, after releasing other games and completing degrees in Animation and Computer Science, Alan returned to expand Dangerous Diver into a much larger PC release while building upon the programming foundation created by Colm. Countless evenings around full-time work and family life later, the project has finally reached the finish line.
