Veteran roguelike developer Tommy McKay has announced ALLFATHER, a brutal first-person roguelike with precise, stamina-driven combat, coming to Steam in 2027. McKay follows up his self-published hit Gnomes with a first-person climb through the nine realms of Norse myth. ALLFATHER is his most ambitious project yet, and the first to be released under his name as a solo developer.
A brutal, first-person roguelike with precise, stamina-driven combat. Play as a fallen shieldmaiden who rejects the judgement of the Valkyries. Proving to the gods she deserves their favour, she uses their blessings to crawl from the depths of Helheim to the halls of Valhalla.
“Every exchange in ALLFATHER is brutal but fair. There are no cheap deaths, but you’ll pay for your mistakes. It doesn’t matter if you’re carving through a swarm of crawling undead or in a frenetic duel with an elite. Button mashing gets you killed, awareness and patience keep you alive,” said McKay.
Every run is a fresh climb through the worlds of Norse myth. Each realm is its own distinct biome that offers a different environmental challenge, a unique set of foes and a new boss to master. Choose your rewards at every fork, and shape your build through the blessings of the gods. Death is permanent, but the runes and iron you earn feed persistent progression in Hel’s hall between runs.
McKay explains, “ALLFATHER is built on the roguelike foundations players know me for. Tension and real decisions. Permadeath means every fight you survive raises the stakes, and every blessing you take is a choice you live with for the rest of the run. I didn’t want to make a dungeon crawl about inventory management and bookkeeping, I wanted to make one about mastering the combat system and adapting to a different build every run.”
