Indie studio Cutting Corner Games has released a new trailer for Pistonica – The Steam Automation Game, its upcoming first-person factory automation game built around steam, mechanical power, and resource management.
Pistonica leaves electrical grids behind. Players pump seawater, harvest fuel, pressurize steam networks and build increasingly elaborate mechanical factories across a lush tropical island.
Resources also come with a catch: deposits contain mixtures of useful materials and unwanted byproducts. Keeping production running means sorting, filtering, rerouting and finding inventive ways to transport goods – including miniature cargo airships and massive steam-powered throwers capable of launching loaded carts across the landscape.
Behind it all is a strange radio signal. Players have been sent to the island to construct an enormous transmitter, researching new technologies and decoding incoming signals with punch-card technology as the project grows increasingly complex.
Key features
- Pure Steam & Mechanical Power – No electrical grids. Pump seawater, burn fuel, and pressurize closed-loop steam networks to power your machinery.
- Dirt Deposits & Sorting Logistics – Extract mixed-resource deposits and build filtration and routing systems to keep unwanted byproducts from brining production to a halt.
- Ballistic Logistics – Throwers & Airships – Move cargo in unconventional ways, from miniature dirigibles to huge steam-powered throwers that launch loaded carts across the island.
- 1920s Untamed Island Frontier – Explore a lush, sun-drenched tropical wilderness in first person as an ace pilot and engineer surrounded by roaring boilers and bespoke machinery.
- Decode Strange Signals – Receive mysterious transmissions in your radio lag, decipher them using punch-card technology and use what you learn to advance your mission.
- Humor Meets Serious Gameplay – Deep resource management and factory automation meet a warm, witty retro tone. Trade bananas, craft birdhouses, and when necessary, throw cargo carts with a trebuchet.
