Paradise Lost Studios announced A Sector Darkly, an open-world, real-time 2D space exploration RPG planned for Windows PC via Steam Early Access in Q4 2026.
Inspired by a lineage of space-adventure classics, A Sector Darkly combines exploration, trading, ship combat, scavenging, research, crafting and survival in a living simulated universe. Players command a single ship and crew rather than an empire, navigating a sector where alien powers pursue their own agendas and every alliance, or enemy, can change the journey home.
About A Sector Darkly
Lost in an unknown region of the galaxy, players must explore unfamiliar systems while the invading U’Guul blockade star systems and rival alien powers pursue competing goals. Sectors are going dark one by one, and no one knows why. Finding a way home is only the beginning: eventually, players must confront whatever is emerging from the Dark Sectors.
The experience is built around open-ended exploration and meaningful choices. Players can trade, fight, scavenge, research and craft; customise their ship; manage their crew; and communicate with 11 distinct alien races. Factions can become friends, rivals or uneasy neutrals, with relationships shaping the help, or hostility, players encounter across the sector.
