Solo developer MIKANNEKO is pleased to announce the release of “Witch Hunt 0 Demo” on Steam. This 3D action game combines “boss rush” and “miniature garden (hakoniwa)” elements centered around hunting witches. Supported operating systems are Windows 10 and 11.
“Witch Hunt 0” is a boss-battle-focused game where the protagonist, a witch named Astera, fights powerful enemies to regain her lost powers by crafting magic and turning defeated foes into her familiars (allies). The game features a stress-free design tailored for combat enthusiasts, completely eliminating tedious “grunt fights” and the need to wander across vast maps. Furthermore, traditional leveling systems have been removed. Instead, your stats increase based on the familiars you bring along, meaning the stronger your familiars become, the easier your hunts will get…
Intense Battles Between Witches
To make enemy witches display more human-like thinking, certain spells incorporate a “predictive aiming (deviation attack)” mechanic. Enemies will anticipate your movements before attacking, making your positioning and tactical choices crucial. Additionally, the game’s key “Ultimate Magic” requires a casting time. Since enemies will also unleash their own Ultimate Magic, players can look forward to thrilling, high-stakes magical clashes.
Magic Crafting
Magic is divided into eight elements: Fire, Water, Ice, Wind, Thunder, Earth, Light, and Darkness, each offering unique status effects. For instance, Fire boosts attack power, while Thunder enhances evasion. New spells are primarily obtained through crafting, and players will be able to test up to 22 different types of magic in the demo.
Turn Enemies into Familiars and Hunt Together
To gather familiars, you must challenge the “Trials of the Binary Stars,” a roguelite mode where the appearing monsters change with every run. As you progress deeper through the layers, it becomes easier to recruit powerful familiars—but the strength of the monsters you face will also skyrocket.
Developer Backstory: Why I Created This Game
I absolutely love “Monster Hunter,” but I always felt there was a lack of 3D action games purely dedicated to boss battles, so I decided to make one myself. Since I personally prefer ranged combat over close-quarters fighting, I chose to combine magic with a boss rush format. By stripping away almost every element I deemed unnecessary, I have created a game packed tightly with the elements of “Boss Rush, Miniature Garden, Crafting, and Third-Person Shooter.”
