Crytivo and Winter Cats Studios are pleased to announce Thveit, a storybook Norse-inspired city builder where changing seasons, ancient beliefs, and encounters with folklore shape the fate of every settlement.
Players begin with a small settlement nestled in a quiet corner of a procedurally generated island. From there, they help a handful of settlers build homes, cultivate fields, fish, tend livestock, establish workshops, and gradually grow a warm, self-sustaining village.
As the settlement develops, the island begins to reveal its other inhabitants. Unusual tracks appear near the forest. Strange lights move across the water. Animals gather around sacred places, and unfamiliar creatures emerge from stories passed down through generations.
A settlement with room to grow
Settlers need shelter, food, warmth, comfort, clothing, work, storage, and safe places to gather. Players can build homesteads, farms, fishing spots, workshops, docks, sacred structures, and layered production chains that allow the village to stand on its own.
The settlement grows through the lives of its people and the relationships they form, not simply through the number of buildings placed on the map.
The veil between worlds
The beings players encounter are not enemies waiting to be defeated. Players can study each creature’s habits and behavior, learn what it eats, understand where it prefers to live, and discover how it responds to the people around it.
Some creatures need food, shelter, quiet spaces, offerings, or specially built homes before they feel comfortable living near the settlement. In return, they may help with work, protect the village, provide resources, improve the lives of settlers, or warn the community when danger is nearby.
Some relationships may even begin at birth. A rare egg discovered during a voyage can be brought home, protected, and nurtured until the creature inside grows into a full-sized dragon. Raising one is a considerable responsibility, but also the beginning of a powerful friendship.
The old ways endure
Players can build temples and sacred structures, choose a god for their settlement to follow, and earn divine favor through gifts, rituals, offerings, and actions aligned with that god’s values.
At first, the gods remain unseen. As the settlement’s devotion grows, they may make their presence known, reveal themselves to the people, grant blessings, or provide help during important moments in the village’s journey.
Beyond your shores
By exploring surrounding islands, players can discover other settlements, establish relationships, exchange resources, and build a reputation through trade. Voyages may return with new settlers, rare goods, ancient knowledge, relics, rumors, and discoveries capable of changing the village’s future.
When winter arrives
As snow covers the island and the nights grow longer, settlers must remain fed, warm, and safe. Supplies matter, but survival does not depend on stockpiles alone. Hostile spirits may move through the darkness, and dangers beyond the village become harder to ignore.
Relationships with neighboring settlements, mythical creatures, and the old gods may provide the protection, guidance, resources, and unexpected help needed to carry the community through the coldest nights.
